Survey of nematodes associated with sugarcane in the state of Paraná, Brazil

Sugarcane-associated nematodes (Saccharum spp.) can reduce productivity up to 50%. Through the survey, it was possible identify main that occur in a certain region as tool for designing best management and control strategies. The aim of this study characterize population associated with sugarcane North Central, Pioneiro Northwest mesoregion state Paraná, Brazil, quantify nematode genera crop species Pratylenchus Meloidogyne. A total amount 89 soil root composite samples were collected nine municipalities. Nematodes extracted counted Peters counting chamber under an optical light microscope. Morphological description followed identification keys. spp. identified by morphological characteristics; Meloidogyne characteristics isoenzyme electrophoresis. Twelve identified: Pratylenchus, Meloidogyne, Helicotylenchus, Xiphinema, Mesocriconema, Trichodorus, Aphelenchus, Hoplolaimus, Tylenchus, Tylenchorhynchus, Ditylenchus, Paratrichodorus. found highest frequencies roots. Among P. zeae brachyurus found, being most frequent. species, only M. javanica found. These results are essential aid decision making phytonematodes, mainly development new strategies directing genetic breeding programs cultivars Paraná state.
